Glencoe winter break
This is the Anoch Eagach ridge in winter, sometimes called the Aonach Eagach ridge.
You can take mountain navigation courses, and you can get local mountain guides. None of this is frightening for an experienced party. It is what gives mountaineering in Scotland its thrill.  Telephone the Met Office for a forecast on 09068 500 441 Mountain Call West.
You may be the only ones climbing the mountain in Winter. The lower tracks are easy to spot but towards the tops they usually become shapeless, and in mist and a gale it can become frightening. Snow on the top and ice on the rocks add to the problem.
Most mountain accidents happen on the way down, usually because the pressure is off. If you give up on reaching the top, then it is vital to know where you are as you turn back. Best to use GPS.
It gets dark in Scotland earlier than in England in Winter and you need to allow up to 8 hours on the Munro in case something goes wrong. The absolute last thing you want is to be benighted on Scottish Mountains in Winter.
