DNA finds descendant of the Macdonalds massacre chief
We know that he and his family were murdered in the Massacre. He was a rogue and a thief, and caused endless havoc amongst the other clans. The MacDonalds were hated by the rival clansmen in the Highlands.

We know he was buried on Eilean Munda the ancient burial isle in Loch Leven.

But through DNA searches they have found the descendants of McIain of Glencoe, the Chief.

Three of his descendants are in the USA, and three in England. The family spread everywhere around the world after the Clearances of the 18th century.

A strange twist in the tale concerns a disease common to the Clan called Dupuytens Contracure, which affects the hand. The chap doing the study into this family, Barra McCain, also suffers from the disease.

It was a familiar disease to the Vikings.

James of the Glens graveyard controversy
This chap Colin Campbell, The “Red Fox” was having a drink in Inshaig the old pub in Duror with James Stewart, known as James of the Glens.  Three weeks later Glenure was shot by someone - not James - but James was arrested, and taken to Inverary for trial.
It was rigged. James was hanged on a rock above to-days Ballachulish Hotel and beside the bridge. You can see it there if you look. His bones were tied together and left there as a warning to others. Friends later cut them down and buried them at Keill Graveyard near Duror just off the road to Oban.
Gillian and I made a serious effort a few years ago to find the graveyard. It was ruined, very overgrown and based in the middle of a farmyard. We found it but it took a bit of doing.
There is a big punch up going on in the local papers about how it has become even more difficult to find because the farmer has locked gates and hampered access. But last time we looked it seemed ok.  Information about Appin

3 on the Richter scale News
Nothing to worry about, but the tremors happen once or twice a year. At Lochgoilhead this year "There was quite a rumble, and a loud bang as if a bomb had gone off" Actually, you would not notice them, and the occasional rumble feels right somehow for an area which was formed 40 millions years ago by the most violent and
