Glencoe self catering lochside cottage, in Kentallen bay near Oban, Fort William

Virtual tour

Location

Lochside cottages are for self catering in Glencoe. Our cottage is in Kentallen, near Glencoe, the most beautiful Glen in Scotland. This Glencoe self catering holiday cottage is near Oban. One of the prettiest self catering cottages not far from Fort Willliam and Ben Nevis. Glencoe Walks are the finest

We are John and Gillian Winkler and we are not going to tell you when this photo was taken.

We love Scotland and always have. We passed along this road in 1987, Valentine’s Day, saw the cottage for sale and immediately made an offer. It took 30 minutes to decide, and it was one of our best family decisions ever. It has been a joy

Our children love it, our children’s children love it. Luckily our guests love it.

It is built of Kentallenite, one of the hardest rocks known to man probably 4 million years old, the roof is of famous Ballachulish slate. Both were quarried nearby a long time ago

We stay in it often. Our favourite trips these days, are along the single track roads in Ardnamurchan, 20 minutes away by ferry, or to Craft and Things for coffee in Glencoe village, or a bar meal in the Holly Tree Hotel next door or to the climber’s atmosphere at the Clachaig Inn in Glencoe

We used to climb the hills, take cruises to see the wild life, tramp up Ben Nevis, or ski in the Winter at Glencoe. Nowadays we take it easy.

Why have I put this photo here? No reason. I just like it. It reminds me of how things were.
